Our Cause
The Rivanna Conservation Society appreciates the beauty and recreation that the Rivanna River provides. We also share this water resource with fellow humans and the wildlife that inhabits the surrounding area. RCS aims to educate the public in order to get our communities involved in conservation efforts so that future generations may also enjoy the river's benefits. The following lists some of our current and past efforts.
- Clean river and restock shad
- Monitor bacteria levels, water quality, and flow change
- Administer StreamWatch
- Participate in Adopt A Stream
- Steward the Scheier Natural Area
- Sponsor public education forums
- Promote and sell water conserving products
- Provide UVa Student Intern Program
- Lobby for forested riparian buffers
- Publish River Days brochure and other informative materials
- Advocate environmentally sound ordinances, programs, practices, and policies
- Cooperatively host the Rivanna River Regatta and Festival
